The Samatha Trust - Buddhist Meditation in the Samatha Tradition

Samatha Meditation. A practice of Mindfulness of Breathing. Encourages calming and stilling of the mind towards greater well-being and understanding.

Greenstreete - The National Samatha Centre

Residential courses are offered at our national centre near Knighton in Mid Wales. Originally a Welsh hill farm, it was bought by the Samatha Trust in 1987. The house has been extensively renovated; a Meditation Hall has been constructed on the site of an old barn and a number of meditation huts built for those who would benefit from more solitude.

Gardens, woodland and a wetland area have been created. The farmhouse and Meditation Hall are surrounded by 88 acres of hills, woods and streams, providing varied and peaceful settings for meditation.

Weekend Courses In Meditation

The weekend courses include group meetings and practices, individual practice time for both sitting and walking meditation, discussion, and one-to-one consultations with the teachers. There is also usually some time to go for walks: the land around the Centre gives a rich and peaceful environment which can help to nourish the practice.

Weekend or longer courses for newcomers to Samatha meditation are held regularly at the Samatha Centre in Mid-Wales. For people with little or no previous experience of meditation these courses provide a structured introduction. They also provide an opportunity for people who have done other forms of meditation to explore this particular breathing mindfulness technique, with opportunities for discussion and individual guidance.
